DESCRIPTION
Rice is one of the most widely consumed staple foods in the world, providing more than 20% of the world’s caloric needs*. Rice provides essential nutrients such as carbohydrates, protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals.
Our organic rice is grown on Florida Crystals® Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC®) farms. This certification represents the highest standard for organic agriculture in the world. The freshly harvested long and medium grain rice is delivered to the Sem-Chi rice mill, located in Belle Glade, Florida, where it is cleaned, dried, milled and packaged. It is available in white and brown rice options in a variety of pack sizes.
Using Rice as a Rotational Crop: Our rice not only offers a food source, but it also benefits the environment as one of our rotational crops to conserve soil. Crop rotation dates back centuries and consists of planting different crops sequentially on the same plot of land. Rotating our sugarcane farms with rice helps enrich the soil and eliminate weeds and pests. Since our rice fields are flooded for 80 days of their 120-day growing cycle, it keeps our soil unexposed to the air – preventing it from breaking down.
Complementing our rice mill, we also operate a rice flour mill that produces organic and conventional rice flour that is suitable for gluten-free diets.
